The next Perspectives Lecture will focus on careers using Mathematics and Statistics. The panel will draw upon our speakers' range of experiences to reflect on the diverse range of opportunities and the skills required to succeed.

‘Perspectives’ is a series of free, public lectures hosted by Bolton School. They are free to attend and open to pupils in Year 9 and above, parents, alumni, and all other members of the School and local community.

Speakers:

Shouma Khan, CFO (Old Boy, Class of 1991)

Shouma Khan (Class of 1991) is a Mathematics and Statistics graduate with over 25 years’ experience working in accounting/finance roles across FMCG and media companies. Shouma is currently the Chief Financial Officer for a highly regarded animation studio called Nexus Studios headquartered out of London with an office in Los Angeles. Prior to joining Nexus, he has had a varied career in finance working across media including over 10 years at Disney, over 5 years at CNN and most recently at a retro-gaming startup. Before joining Disney, Shouma also spent 4 years at Mars Confectionery and trained at Ernst & Young.

Tom Cowling, Actuary (Old Boy, Class of 2011)

Tom left Bolton School in 2011 with A-Levels in maths, further maths, economics and physics and went on to study economics at Durham University. After graduating in 2014 he started a career as an actuarial analyst at Grant Thornton in London. In July 2020 he joined Markel International, a London market insurer, and completed the actuarial exams in December 2020. Currently he focuses on setting reserves for a number of insurance products, covering a wide range of risks from racehorses to accidents on oil rigs.
