Benji Houghton, a Year 6 pupil at Bolton School Boys’ Division Junior School, has been chosen as one of seven Most Valuable Players at the Legia football cup held in Warsaw. He was playing with Manchester United's Academy and, although they did not win, he was chosen for the ‘Dream Team’ of the Tournament. The event saw around 150 players taking part in academy teams from across Europe.
Benji’s mother, Karen Houghton, said: ‘He gave it everything as you can imagine - he played 11 games, scoring five goals himself and setting up another nine. He also finished in the top 10 goal scorers! Needless to say we are extremely proud of him and thrilled for him to be given this award.'
The Legia Cup was Benji's third European tournament of the year, having already competed in Amsterdam, where his team was runner-up and in the Czech Republic, where he was a winner and was awarded the overall Most Valuable Player award.
Benji originally joined Man Utd almost seven years ago and is a massive fan of the club. His favoured position is midfield or wing.
