Year 7 and Year 8 pupils at Bolton School Boys’ Division spent an inspirational, absorbing and uplifting day with hip hop artist, performance poet and award-winning author, Karl Nova.
The guest speaker delivered an engaging and energetic workshop, telling the pupils about his life experiences and how he got into poetry through rap music. After a discussion about what poetry and literature are actually for, Karl encouraged the pupils to express themselves through writing their own verse and performing to their peers.
Head of English, Ms Sigrist, said: ‘Year 8 are currently studying poetry and recently revisited the crossover between traditional poetry and modern rap. It is such an important way to modernise literature study to enable boys to access, enthuse and engage.’
Karl lunched with a number of staff and pupils in the library and signed copies of his two books – Rhythm and Poetry and The Curious Case of Karl Nova.
