Creative Focus for Next Perspectives Lecture

TUESDAY 8 FEBRUARY, 7.00PM 

The next Perspectives Lecture will focus on careers in the creative arts industry. Join our panel of speakers on Zoom to hear them discuss the opportunities and challenges of careers in a range of creative fields. Drawing upon their varied experience, four Bolton School alumni will also reflect upon the diverse range of career choices within the sector and the skills requires to succeed.

Our panellists are freelance actor and voiceover artist Luci Fish (Class of 2010), contemporary still life and botanical painter Nicola Currie (née Darley, Class of 1974), student of Music at the Royal Academy of Music Caroline Blair (Class of 2018) and Head of Development at Synchronicity Films Deanne Cunningham (Class of 2001).

‘Perspectives’ is a series of free, public lectures hosted by Bolton School Girls’ Division, currently taking place on Zoom. They are free to attend and open to pupils in Year 10 and above, parents, alumni, and all other members of the School and local community. About our panellists:

Luci Fish is an actor and award-winning voiceover artist based near London. As an actor, she trained at the prestigious Drama Centre London and has gone on to work in film, television, radio and on stage. Most of her work though is as a voiceover artist, which is as varied as commercials to video games, narrating audiobooks to e-learning courses, and from animation to telephone systems. Luci records from her own recording studio at home, as well as in London and Manchester. Clients include Pokémon, Sainsbury’s, Spotify, NSPCC, H&M and Coca-Cola.

Nicola Currie (née Darley) is a contemporary still life and botanical painter based in Worcestershire. Her oil paintings are inspired by the beauty of the natural world. She is currently Artist in Residence at Spetchley Park Gardens near Worcester and these gardens are often the starting point for her paintings. Nicola works in the classical tradition of painting but her use of colour and subject matter is contemporary. A recent development in her work is painting very detailed floral paintings on gold leaf. The gold providing an additional reflective surface to her finely executed pictures. Nicola has exhibited widely in the UK. She is represented by White Court Art.

Caroline Blair is a Soprano currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Marie Vassiliou and Christopher Glynn with an Entrance and Leverhulme Centenary Scholarship. She has been involved with Tête-À-Tête opera festival, Vache Baroque Festival as a young artist and Uppermill music festival. She is an Academy Bach soloist and has performed in the operas The Cunning little Vixen and Albert Herring with Royal Academy Opera. Alongside her operatic engagements, Caroline is an advocate for Oratorio and Choral music.

Deanne Cunningham studied law at university and qualified as a corporate solicitor before realising her heart lay somewhere more creative. She moved into television via the BBC’s graduate Trainee Production scheme, and since then has worked across a variety of film and television productions. Over the past 14 years she has worked across the UK as a freelance script editor and producer. Credits include Cold Feet (ITV), The Tunnel (Sky), Endeavour (ITV) and Humans (Ch4) as well as a stint as a storyliner on EastEnders (BBC) and Waterloo Road (BBC). She has also produced several short films and is a member of BAFTA.

She currently works as Head of Development at Glasgow based Film and TV production company Synchronicity Films. She is developing a range of scripted projects for both UK and international broadcasters. She is still a TV, film and theatre fanatic!
