Girls' Division Drama

Earlier in the Term, the Young Film Academy was back for its fifteenth year at Bolton School Girls’ Division, delivering a one-day film school to the whole of Year 10.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the masterclass in filmmaking, learning about the industry before getting more hands-on. Their day included a session looking at various film-making techniques and types of shot as well as giving them the opportunity to learn how to create an on-screen fight sequence.

As the day unfolded, Year 10 were soon trying their hand at shooting their own short silent films. Working in groups, they were given the challenge of telling a compelling story in just ten shots and had to try and incorporate everything they had learned throughout the day. The task demanded a wide range of skills from the girls, including creativity, teamwork, patience and communication.

A screening of all of the short films brought the One Day Film School to a close, followed by an ‘Oscars’ ceremony where Head Mrs Kyle announced the overall winner.

The Young Film Academy tutors' verdict was:

Really great group, sparky and engaged throughout the day. Excellent films across the board.
