In a testament to the exceptional talent at Bolton School, five remarkable student athletes are poised to embark on their next chapter of success in the United States. Girls’ Division students Ella Brophy, Harriet Dickens and Ruby Hurt and Boys’ Division students Joe Emery and Max Goodwin have gained prestigious scholarships to further their athletic and academic endeavours in America.

Ruby Hurt, a rising star in lacrosse, has achieved remarkable success on both national and international stages. Her crowning achievement of representing Wales in the European Championships reflects her dedication and skill. Now, with a sports and academic scholarship, Ruby is set to follow in the footsteps of her two sisters, Phoebe Hurt (Class of 2022) and Millie Hurt (Class of 2020), to study at Florida Institute of Technology. Ruby mentioned that she is looking forward to the impressive lacrosse program and the promise of Florida's sunny climate. She aims to lead her team to victory in the Sunshine State Conference and secure a spot on the All-American team.

Ella Brophy is another outstanding lacrosse player who has earned recognition for her prowess on the field. She has been playing since she was 9 and her selection to England's Under 18 team reflects her talent and dedication. With a prestigious sports and academic scholarship to Florida Tech, Ella is eager to contribute to the university's lacrosse programme and pursue her dream of championship success.

Harriet Dickens, a shining example of excellence in water polo, has been swimming since she was 2 years old and started playing water polo at 9 years old. She has earned accolades both locally and internationally, winning the Breakthrough Athlete of the Year award and competing in three European Championships. Her most recent appointment as captain of Great Britain's Under 19 national team speaks volumes of her leadership and skill. Now, with a sports scholarship to the University of Michigan, Harriet is poised to perform on the global stage, pursuing her goal of earning a place on the All-American first team.

Joe Emery has spent the last five years dedicating himself to his passion: golf. He has reduced his handicap in this time by nearly 24 shots, allowing him to enter the most prestigious of competitions. Playing around some of the finest courses in Europe has enabled him to fine tune his skills. He entered the European Open, held this year in Andulusia, Spain, and managed a remarkable placing of fifth overall, winning one of the four days outright. Other notable achievements last season were finishing in the top three in the Lancashire U18s, holding the junior course record at Harwood GC and representing Lancashire in the U18 squad. His scholarship is with Bluefield State University, West Virginia.

Max Goodwin has represented School football teams throughout his time at Bolton, culminating this year as First Team Goalkeeper. Elsewhere, he has played for a number of different clubs, most recently Chorley Under 21s. He is looking forward to studying at Indiana Tech University with a football (soccer) scholarship.

As these outstanding elite athletes prepare to embark on their collegiate journeys in America, their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence serves as an inspiration to current and future students alike.

Their final words of guidance for those considering applying to study in America are: apply early, and take a trip to experience it all first-hand.
