Bolton School’s Junior Girls recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of the move into the Hesketh House building. As part of the festivities, a commemorative Weather Clock featuring the school building was unveiled. The clock was purchased for the school by the Parents’ Association and crafted by Bramwell Brown, a clockmaking company founded by former pupils.
Sarah Clifford Bowles (née Leigh-Bramwell, Class of 2002) attended the Junior Girls’ School during her time as a pupil. She and her brother Rob Bramwell, who attended the Infant School when it stood on the Hesketh House site, are the co-founders of Bramwell Brown. Since 2014, the company has catered to Britain’s love affair with the weather by creating mechanically animated clocks that forecast the weather.
Sarah said: ‘It’s been an absolute honour to work with some of my former teachers, Mrs Holt and Mrs Laverick to create this bespoke Weather Clock and it’s been such an enjoyable process. We often refer to our clocks as being heirlooms of the future and we are so proud that one of our Bramwell Brown clocks will feature prominently in the school for many, many years to come.’
The Junior Girls’ Head Teacher Mrs Carol Laverick said:
Mrs Holt originally suggested having a clock as she has one herself, and when I saw it I was in complete agreement, as were our very generous PA who kindly agreed to pay for it. We absolutely love it, and it feels particularly special because of the connections to the School. Thank you to Sarah for working on this project for us, and it was lovely to be in touch with a former pupil we have fond memories of and who has clearly gone on to see a great deal of success.
