Poppy Rate, a Year 6 girl at Bolton School, has, after trials over the last few weeks, been selected to play for Lancashire's U11 cricket team.
Proud mum, Mrs Anita Rate, said: ‘Poppy attended two trial sessions at Emirates Old Trafford earlier this month and we are delighted at her being chosen by Lancashire. She will be training every week at Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground and will play matches in the new year. She’s worked so hard and we are incredibly proud of her!’
Poppy currently plays for Tonge Cricket Club U11s, having begun playing for the U9s two years ago. Tonge CC will also be running all girls cricket teams next season for the first time. Poppy only joined Hesketh House a year ago and it was her PE teacher at her previous school who encouraged her to start playing.
