Teacher Mrs Julia Marsden and a group of Y5 and Y6 pupils from Bolton School Junior Girls’ School recently attended Bank Top United Reformed Church in Bolton where they led a service focused on the theme of ‘Helping Hands’.
Mrs Marsden was invited to speak at the church as they have been fundamental in supporting her fundraising project to build a school in Malawi for street children. She reflected: ‘When I initially went to Malawi with RETRAK, Bank Top held choir concerts, cake sales, afternoon teas and the like to help me raise my goal. More recently, Bank Top Guides held a sponsored event and donated to my Just Giving page and then the elders of the church voted to support my page with their “change for charity” campaign.’
The girls talked about how they can use their Hesketh House habits, learnt at school, for good in the world and how we can all use our hands to help other. Mrs Marsden updated the congregation on how the fundraising endeavour is going and on the project in Malawi.
Mrs Marsden is seeking to raise £50,000 in order to build a school in Malawi. Her charity venture was inspired by two trips to Malawi to work with street children in 2017 and 2018. So far, almost £7,000 has been raised. She will be introducing a new fundraising event for the campaign to the Junior Girls’ School when they return after the half-term break.
