With such a riot of colour, it could only mean that it was the annual charity fun run for the Junior Boys at Bolton School. Over 200 boys aged 7-11 and their teachers donned a variety of fancy dress outfits and worked in tag teams within Form groups to perform as many laps of the Senior School athletics track as they could. Costumes this year included those campaigning for a greener world, along with boys wearing the outfits of sports stars, superheroes, fruits, dinosaurs, Harry Potter characters, Yoda, Mario, Hulk and Minions. Teachers were, given the weather, fittingly attired in Hawaiian shirts.
Coming after a week of tests, the run is the major fundraising event in the Junior School’s calendar and regularly raises anything from £7,000 to £10,000. This year, half of the money raised will go towards Bolton School's Junior Girls' teacher Mrs Marsden and her Malawi Project, which is aiming to raise £50,000 to build a primary school in Malawi. The remaining funds will be split evenly and given to charities chosen by the boys: Team Seas, Diabetes UK, Cancer Research and Derian House.
