The Junior Boys’ Carol Service was this year held in the Girls’ Division Great Hall and filmed so that the whole school community could enjoy the occasion. Choral singing was the focus for the evening, interspersed with readings focused on the Christmas story.
The evening began in traditional style with the singing of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’. The clear first verse solo was sung by William Cutler, with the Upper School Choir joining in for the second verse before the whole audience was encouraged to sing along for the remainder of the carol.
Later in the programme, the Upper School Choir sang ‘All Creatures of the Wild’ and ‘Somewhere in my Memory’. The Lower School Choir had their moment to shine with a performance of ‘Bless Us All’ and by singing the third verse of ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’, between verses sung by the whole congregation. The Chamber Choir gave a beautiful rendition of ‘Peace on Earth’.
The whole school came together to sing ‘So Gentle The Donkey’. The boys also sang the first verse of ‘Silent Night’ in Chinese before being joined by the audience for the rest of the carol in English.
The Great Hall was further filled with voices for the singing of ‘See Him Lying on a Bed of Straw’ and, to bring the Carol Service to a fitting close, a rousing rendition of ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful’ with the first verse sung by the Junior Boys alone.
Head of Primary Division Mrs Faulkner ended the evening with the closing prayer.
